Tallgrass Prairie - Ecological Restoration Technician

About the Position

We are seeking a dedicated Prairie Restoration Technician to join our team in revitalizing one of the largest native tallgrass prairie projects on private land, in Ontario. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to participate in meaningful conservation work while developing specialized skills in one of North America's most threatened ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement prairie restoration techniques including seed collection, processing, and planting

• Remove invasive plant species using mechanical and chemical methods

• Monitor plant communities and wildlife populations

• Operate and maintain field equipment and tools

• Assist with vegetation surveys and data collection

Qualifications

• Diploma or bachelor's degree in environmental science, ecology, conservation biology, or a related field or one that is underway.

• Previous practical experience in ecological restoration, land management, or conservation

• Knowledge of native and invasive plant identification

• Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and challenging terrain

• Valid driver's license and ability to operate field vehicles

• Experience with hand tools and small power equipment

• Basic understanding of tallgrass prairie ecosystems

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

• Comfort working in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind)

• Stamina for full days of physical fieldwork
