Join the Donohoe Living Landscapes team as our Lead Field Horticulturist and become an integral part of transforming visionary landscape designs into stunning realities across British Columbia and beyond. We’re seeking a dynamic and experienced individual who is passionate about creating beautiful, sustainable, and bespoke residential landscapes that leave a lasting impact. In this key off-site, hands-on role, you’ll partner with our talented Design Director and Horticulturist to bring custom planting plans to life, and execute their installation to deliver exceptional results.
As the Lead Field Horticulturist, you’ll have the opportunity to shape every phase of the project, from sourcing the finest plants and materials to managing the seamless execution of installations. You’ll be directly involved with clients, subcontractors, and our project manager, ensuring that every detail is executed flawlessly and that our projects exceed expectations. A typical week:
Work directly in the field to execute bespoke planting plans, bringing residential landscapes to life across British Columbia and beyond, alongside our Design Director, Horticulturist, and installation teams.
Collaborate closely with our project manager, clients, and subcontractors to ensure smooth communication and alignment on project timelines, expectations, and quality standards.
Source and procure trees, shrubs, plants, and materials from nurseries across the Pacific Northwest, ensuring all materials meet our high standards for both aesthetics and sustainability.
Actively participate in planting, preparing landscapes for installation, and overseeing every phase of the process, from preparing the soil to laying out softscape elements.
Take responsibility for the removal of invasive species, landscape preparation, and finishing details to ensure the completion of high-quality, beautiful, and sustainable landscapes.
Manage ongoing landscape maintenance, ensuring projects remain pristine and continue to thrive long after installation is complete, providing hands-on care and attention to detail.
Qualifications
Education:
College/Technical Training or Trades Certificate,, University Degree,
Skills & Professional Training
5+ years experience working in landscape development and installation - residential experience an asset;
A diploma or degree in Horticulture or Garden Design is essential;
Demonstrated experience leading and supervising a team of installers, ensuring tasks are completed safely, on time, within budget, and exceed client expectations;
A comprehensive knowledge of proper planting techniques, soil preparation and plant care, including understanding plant types, growth habits and ideal growing conditions for species native to the Pacific Northwest. Knowledge of, or interest in, Hawaiian species an asset;
A keen eye for detail, and an ability to read and understand landscape design plans and project specifications to ensure proper installation;
Strong communication skills, and an ability to address issues or challenges that arise in a proactive and professional manner;
Strong time and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deliverables across multiple sites;
A physical ability to use the tools and equipment required to instal and maintain landscapes;
A tenacious attitude and ability to work independently or with a team;
A willingness to work outdoors in a variety of locations and weather conditions;
Valid Class 5 Driver's License, comfortable navigating a truck and trailer.

$35 to $40/hour
