Lead Hand / Design, Build & Enhancements

Location: based in Oakville

Start date: August 25, 2025

Compensation: $26 – $31 per hour hour commensurate with qualifications

A Lead Hand at Cudmore’s Landscape & Design are experienced, skilled team members who set the tone on a job site with their productivity and efficiency, reliable and safe drivers and equipment operators and are meticulous with skilled tasks and execute with attention to detail and high quality.

With a detailed understanding of sequencing and efficiency, Lead Hands drive a project forward with exacting execution and collaboration with Crew Leads and Team Members.

This experience is typically gained through:

3-5 years in the landscape industry or equivalent experience

1-2 years of experience in the industry complemented by schooling or training, such as 1-2 years of Apprenticeship Red Seal training in the horticultural trades or successful completion of Landscape Ontario’s GROW supervisory training (note: we highly encourage our Lead Hands to have their Red Seal in progress – we are committed to supporting coverage of tuition and learning journey)

High acuity and skill in the landscape trades

There are baseline expectations that Lead Hand’s help us model to staff, including:

Treating our team, our clients and yourself with respect, care and kindness

Bringing a collaborative, ego-free mindset to the job site

Arriving to our yard on-time and prepared to work, equipped with PPE

An engagement with the projects assigned to their crew, understanding the skilled requirements they will be leading.

Model pace and professionalism while working at a client’s home

A commitment to quality and a pride in their craft

Areas of skills for a Lead Hand at CLD, include:

Reading technical landscape plans and executing against them

Precast stone installation, base preparation, calculations and stone cutting

Natural stone installation (flagstone, armour, weathered limestone)

Retaining wall installations

Following planting plans, finishing projects with high skill and grooming standards

Completing clean ups, understanding how to make a client’s site look ‘Cudmore’s finished’

Understanding how to maintain a safe, tidy work site.

A Lead Hand should also support team member development, sharing knowledge and skills, while delegating and empowering Team Members in a supportive fashion

Work closely with their Crew Lead to achieve outstanding results

Certifications & designations that are relevant:

Skidsteer and excavator operator certification

First AID
