Lead Hand

Hammond Design & Landscape Ltd. is hiring an experienced Lead Hand who actually knows their way around a jobsite — not someone who “watched a YouTube video once.” We are a hardscape-focused design and build company based out of Oshawa, specializing in high-quality residential stone, wood, and concrete construction. We take pride in doing things properly the first time, and we’re looking for someone who feels the same way. What You’ll Be Doing: • Running landscape construction projects and leading crew members • Reading plans and turning them into finished, high-quality installs • Building hardscapes including interlock, retaining walls, natural stone, carpentry features, and grading/base prep • Keeping jobs organized, on schedule, and up to our standards (which are high) • Training crew members and helping them improve their skills • Communicating with management when materials, timelines, or site issues come up What We Need From You: • Solid landscape construction experience (hardscape experience is a must) • Ability to run a job and problem solve without being babysat • Punctual and reliable — if you’re “usually late,” this won’t be a good fit • Reliable vehicle to get to jobsites • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and handle physically demanding work • Comfortable working outdoors in real Canadian weather (yes, all of it) • Strong leadership and communication skills • Valid driver’s license • Willingness to work in a smoke-free environment Bonus Points If You: • Can run skid steers or mini excavators • Know proper base prep and drainage (the stuff that actually makes projects last) • Take pride in craftsmanship and attention to detail What You Get: • Competitive pay based on experience • Bonus opportunities • A solid crew that works hard but keeps things enjoyable • Consistent, high-quality projects (we’re not a mow-and-go company) If you care about building projects properly, showing up on time, and working with a team that values skill over shortcuts, we’d like to talk.
